With Captain America out of the way, Chris Evans can now jump into all the other kinds of roles that he used to do, and now he’s going to be another pain meds pusher in the upcoming Netflix film Pain Hustlers.
Check this out:
The official description of the movie reads:
Dreaming of a better life for her and her young daughter, Liza (Emily Blunt) lands a job from Pete (Chris Evans) at a failing pharma start-up, where Liza’s charm, drive, and guts catapult her into the high life and the company into the center of a criminal conspiracy with dire consequences.
With the movie said to be inspired by true events, some fans can’t help but point out that this is the third Netflix IP to address the Oxycontin pandemic. They had released a documentary about it back in 2020 with The Pharmacist, and last month we also got the series Painkiller starring Matthew Broderick, Taylor Kitsch, and Uzo Aduba.
We don’t know exactly how Pain Hustlers will be able to set itself apart, but it’s likely that they won’t have the crutch of actually having to stick to an actual story in order to get into how the opioid crisis has started.
If anything, Netflix was probably fully aware of the similar premise with Painkiller, hence releasing the two properties only a few weeks apart.
Watch out for Pain Hustlers when it starts streaming on Netflix on Oct. 27.
