Since the world was pretty bleak enough back in 2020, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker had decided to put a little pause on the show; but now I guess things have started to look up (?), and Brooker is ready to bring us some more tech-related tragedies.
Variety reports that a new Black Mirror is now in development with Netflix. While we don’t have any details on the stars or the upcoming stories, it is said that the production will be more ‘cinematic in scope’ and that each episode will be treated like its own individual film.
The last season of of the series had come out back in 2019, and had brought us stories starring Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Miley Cyrus. We don’t have a cast for the next season yet, but I bet a property like Black Mirror can nab some A+ talent. When do you think Anya Taylor-Joy will be ready to jump in?
While the show had started off pretty miserable with tragedy after tragedy, more recent seasons of Black Mirror have ended on more positive notes. Even then, more uplifting episodes like USS Callister still had some pretty terrifying examples of human misery brought about by the advancement of technology.
With enough time between seasons, I think Brooker and the team behind the Netflix show have had enough time to come with some new stories to tell with Black Mirror. Who knows, maybe they even have some interesting insight based on what we’ve learned from the pandemic. I can’t wait.
No release date has been announced for Black Mirror Season 6.
