The Marvel Netflix universe is slowly making its way to the main MCU, and it will officially get the spotlight with Daredevil: Born Again. Though we’re expected to see the return of several vets like Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, we have one more confirmation of another Netflix hero.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Bernthal will be reprising the role of Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. We don’t have any details as to Bernthal’s role, but we should expect it to be loosely based on what happens to him on the Netflix series.
In Daredevil, Punisher and Daredevil go head-to-head in a battle of morals, where Daredevil tries to stop Frank Castle from going on his murderous vigilante streak. Castle’s arc moves from Punisher going to prison to being freed by Kingpin, and his own solo series has him coping with the trauma of being a war veteran.
Maybe the MCU will try to adapt a lot of Castle’s established Netflix story for the official canon, but I would honestly prefer if we just met the character fully established with no need for a backstory of any kind. This offers a new opportunity to run into Daredevil, and maybe some other MCU heroes like Spider-Man or Shang-Chi.
If it’s not too late, maybe they can have him cameo in Thunderbolts or something.
No specific release date has been set for Daredevil: Born Again, but the show is expected to hit Disney+ sometime next year.
