The end of the month will see the premiere of Netflix’s live-action One Piece, and it’s fair to say that a lot of fans are keeping optimistically cautious. Just in, the streaming giant has dropped a new behind-the-scenes featurette, and we have an inside look at how the show was crafted.
Check this out:
It’s not clear exactly which arcs the series is going to follow, but it does look like the show is only going to cover Luffy gathering his first three crew members with Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. There are also some characters who look to have been fast-forwarded into the story, like Arlong the Saw who has significant history with Nami and her origin.
Admittedly, One Piece is the most cartoonish of the anime that Netflix has tried to adapt, which makes a lot of fans really worried about the live-action version. With the streaming brand having botched adaptations of Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, fans would only think that take on One Piece would be more difficult to pull off.
Even if that was the case, the trailers have been solid, and it looks like the show has found a way to capture the energy of the anime’s actions scenes. Let’s just hope that the quality manages to stay up throughout the whole season rather than a splattering of good and bad visuals here and there.
Watch out for One Piece when it premieres on Netflix on Aug. 31.
