Dave Bautista has been working with director Denis Villeneuve since Blade Runner 2049, and a lot of people are excited for him return as ‘The Beast’ Rabban in the upcoming Dune sequel.
Though Dune: Part Two is set to mark the conclusion of Villneuve’s Dune adaptation, Bautista does tease that he has a future project in the works with the sci-fi auteur. He tells Collider:
“I got to spend much more time with Denny, which I crave for because I love working with Denny. And Denny, again, he just brings out the best in me and this was such an amazing experience… Before I left the film—[we were] talking about something else and I’m not gonna say until it actually happens, but he knows that my dream is to work with him as a number one because I really think that Denny will show me how good I can be.”
If anything, Bautista’s role as Rabban was kind of small in Dune, since all of his scenes are really just him reporting to Baron Harkonnen. With the sequel, it would be great to actually see Rabban in the battlefield and finding out how he got the nickname, “The Beast”.
So far, Bautista’s career is considered to be one of the most interesting ‘wrestler-turned-actor’ stories. While the Rock pretty much plays the same role in all his blockbuster films, Bautista is focused on building a fimography which includes some of the most celebrated modern directors today. He’s worked with Denis Villenueve, Rian Johnson, Zack Snyder, and M. Night Shyamalan; I’m just waiting for that Christopher Nolan or Robert Eggers collaboration.
Dune: Part Two comes to theaters on Nov. 3.
