Dave Bautista Stars in Remake of Classic Mortal Kombat Ad from the 90s

NetherRealm Studios promises to redo the entire Mortal Kombat timeline with their upcoming Mortal Kombat 1, so it would only make sense that they would try to sell the game trying to emulate one of the game’s classic (or should I say klassic?) ads.

Here’s the new promo starring none other than Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista:

And for context, here’s the original ad that was used way back to promote the release of Mortal Kombat 1:

The ad with Bautista is definitely more bombastic, but it’s the same concept of just having random civilians shouting, “Mortal Kombat!” and running to a place getting super-hyped. They’ve also spliced in some clips from the game, but all of that comes in the end.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the release of MK1, especially with an all-new rearranged timeline that puts Liu Kang in the shoes of the new Elder God and Raiden and Kung Lao being his kung fu disciples. Sure, the game has evolved from its B-movie kung fu roots, but who doesn’t love a good action game with a bit of silly violence?

Okay, a lot of silly violence.

It’s In Our Blood. Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and Fatalities!

Watch out for Mortal Kombat 1 when it launches on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 on Sept. 19.
