Batwoman was one of the newest shows on the CW and had been renewed for a second season on the network. What’s news is, the show has lost its main star Ruby Rose, and will be recasting the role of Kate Kane.

Rose herself had said in a statement (via Deadline):

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season… This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

We don’t have an official statement from Rose or the Batwoman production on why she had decided to exit, but people speculate that it could have something to do with the stunt injury that Rose had sustained shooting the first season that almost left her paralyzed. There is also some chatter going around that Rose wasn’t pleased with the hours when it came to shooting the show in Vancouver.

Berlanti Productions and WBTV also had this to say about Rose’s exit:

“Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best… The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

Rose was a major get for the studio when it came to Batwoman, and it’s kind of shocking that Batwoman would lose their main star after the second season renewal. We don’t know who’s going to get the role next, but hopefully it will be someone that would be in it for the longer run.

Catch Batwoman on The CW.
