The CW is looking to keep expanding their DC roster, and this December will see the debut of Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as Batwoman. We don’t have a trailer for the crossover episode yet, but we now have an official image of Rose in her comic-accurate duds.
Check it out:
Batwoman is set to premiere sometime in 2019, but for now, we should expect Kate Kane to appear alongside the Green Arrow, the Flash, and Supergirl in the Arrow-verse crossover event coming in December.
I have to say, it’s kind of a relief to have Batwoman in a comic-accurate costume for once. Besides a few select heroes from the Arrow-verse, character costumes usually end up looking like a person in a motorcycle jacket, pants, gloves, and a tiny mask. Such was the case with Black Canary, the Hawkpeople, Mr. Terrific, and Vixen.
It’s also worth noting that Batwoman is one of the few out lesbian superheroes in DC, and The CW is making sure that the actress portraying her is gay as well. This follows the introduction of a trans hero in Supergirl who is also being played by a trans actress, Nicole Maines.
There was a lot of backlash when Ruby Rose was cast in the role, but hopefully her debut will change a lot of people’s minds. Before Titans, a lot of hate was being cast as Anna Diop’s Starfire, but now early reviews are saying that she’s actually the best character in the series.
Hopefully the same reversal happens with Rose in Batwoman.
No specific release date has been announced for Batwoman, but the show is expected to premiere sometime in 2019. Catch Batwoman’s debut in the Arrow-verse come Dec. 9’s crossover event.
