Despite all the heartaches that Avengers: Infinity War brought, the movie was still rife with some great jokes. Unsurprisingly, most of these jokes came from the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, it turns out that one of the more memorable lines from Drax, “Why is Gamora?”, was improvised by Dave Bautista.

Here’s the original exchange:

Quill: Where’s Gamora?

Stark: I’ll do you one better. WHO is Gamora?

Drax: I’ll do YOU one better. WHY is Gamora??

Talking to Yahoo!, Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely opened up about the evolution of the film’s script. The screenwriters brought up changes in the film, like sending Spider-Man to space instead of Falcon. They also revealed the person behind the funny scene where Star Lord and Iron Man talk about Gamora. It was Bautista who decided to break the tension with the line from Drax:

“The script only said, ‘Where is Gamora?’ ‘I’ll do you even better: Who is Gamora?’ And then one day Bautista just goes, ‘I’ll do you one better: Why is Gamora?’” Markus recalled. “It’s like, ‘OK, you’re very good at your job.’”

Sure Marvel brought James Gunnto write all the dialogue for the Guardians, but it’s kind of cool to see that Bautista has a great understanding of his character. After we found out that Tom Holland improvised the heartbreaking “I don’t want to go,” it’s funny that some comedic improv also made it to the final cut.

Like many of the other Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax disappeared at the end of Infinity War. Despite this fact, a lot of people are positive that he’ll be brought back for the third Guardians movie. However, it probably won’t be the same for Gamora or Loki as they both didn’t die from the “snap.”

Avengers: Infinity War is now out in theaters.
