It’s been seven years since we saw Chris Evans as Captain America for the first time, and it looks like he’s finally ready to put up the shield. Evans has just confirmed that he’s officially retiring from the MCU after Avengers 4.

Talking about his exit to the New York Times, Evans said this about leaving:

“You want to get off the train before they push you off.”

It was said that Evans’ contract had officially ended with Infinity War, but he chose to extend it in order to appear once last time in Avengers 4. What’s odd is, everyone thought that Captain America would have died way back in Captain America: Civil War. I guess they needed more of Evans’ star power for the next two Avengers movies.

The fans are now wondering who would be the next person to earn the Captain America mantle in the MCU. A lot of people want Bucky to take on the role like he did in the comics, but fans have also said that they want to see Sam Wilson use the shield for himself.

Though it’s sad to see Evans leave, his exit from the franchise was inevitable. Hopefully, he won’t be against making small cameos in future movies.

Avengers: Infinity War comes out April 27, and Avengers 4 is set to release May 3, 2019.
