Sandberg may have been stuck doing Shazam! movies since 2019, but now he’s coming back to the horror genre with an adaptation of Until Dawn.

The movie is set to come out in April, and a new trailer has been dropped:

Here’s the official description:

“One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”

The original Until Dawn came from Supermassive Games and released for the PlayStation 4. The game was an interactive horror story with each decision leading to massive consequences with the butterfly effect system. Based on how the game was written, either everyone could die, or everyone could survive.

For context, here’s a look at the remastered game:

The interesting twist with the adaptation is that they’ve managed to add a Groundhog Day narrative in which the night would repeat itself—sticking to the game’s element where people can learn from past mistakes and use that to survive each night. One twist though, is that the monsters also change, and everyone has to find out how to best each creature while knowing what they do about the environment.

I’ll admit, it’s a great twist to the formula, and it should be an interesting watch for first-timers and Until Dawn fans. With Sandberg being stuck doing Shazam! the last couple of years, I’m just happy to see him back in his element.

Watch out for Until Dawn when it comes to cinemas on April 25.

Peak Schwarzenegger Comes to Mortal Kombat 1 as Conan the Barbarian https://www.geekfeed.com/schwarzenegger-comes-to-mortal-kombat-1/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 16:46:49 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86136 The T-800 Terminator had already appeared in Mortal Kombat 11 as a guest fighter, but the devs at NetherRealm somehow found another way to put peak Arnold Schwarzenegger in their game.

Check out the gameplay reveal for Conan the Barbarian in MK1:

Here’s the official description:

Crush your enemies and see them driven before you. Conan THE Barbarian joins Mortal Kombat for early access players on January 21. May Crom help us all.

Conan will be available with the Khaos Reigns expansion, Bundle, or Kollection. Players can also buy him individually via the store.

As far as the character goes, it does look like a lot of his moves mostly consist of using the Atlantean Sword. In real life, the sword was said to have weighed 9 pounds and was said to have been pretty impractical for a weapon, but considering how huge Schwarzenegger was at the time, it would make sense for his Conan to wield such a massive weapon.

With Conan joining the game, Mortal Kombat adds another 80s icon to its roster. While some people may think Conan as a playable character is rather random, it does make sense with the meta-context that MK was supposed to be an adaptation of the 80s film Bloodsport—which explains the franchise’s connection to 80s action cinema. That’s why characters like Robocop, John Rambo, the Predator, and a Xenomorph have made it to the game.

Who knows, maybe in the next 10 years there could be a playable John Wick down the line or maybe characters from other bloody franchises like Resident Evil or Elden Ring.

Mortal Kombat 1 is now playable for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Conan drops on Jan. 21.

New Trailer for The Monkey from Longlegs Director https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-the-monkey-from-longlegs-director/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 16:35:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86132 Say what you will about Longlegs, but the movie definitely had a vibe, and Osgood Perkins is coming back with another trip in the form of The Monkey.

The film is set to come out this February, and we have a new creepy trailer. Check it:

Here’s the official description:

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

Just from the trailer alone, fans can put together some Final Destination and The Omen vibes in which people are violently killed by crazy coincidences. The big hook here is that its Perkins at the helm, and he could very much set the vibe in his own unique way—which has never been done in the genre before.

As far as stars go, the movie will feature Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Sarah Levy, and Elijah Wood. Perkins himself is also set to make an appearance in the movie (as he also has actor credits, even appearing in Jordan Peele’s Nope).

After all the buzz surrounding Longlegs, a lot of fans are excited to see just how The Monkey will turn out. While not many people knew what they were signing up for with Longlegs, maybe The Monkey will be more of a straightforward horror—especially knowing how these Stephen King stories go.

Catch The Monkey when it comes to cinemas on Feb. 21.

New Description for James Cameron’s Avatar 3 Draws More ATLA Comparisons https://www.geekfeed.com/new-description-for-james-camerons-avatar-3/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 16:03:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86128 There was only one Avatar when The Last Airbender premiered in 2005, but James Cameron had to release Avatar in 2009, and fans were forever cursed to define which Avatar they were talking about till the end of time.

With Way of the Water revealing there’s a tribe of Na’vi that dwelled in the water, new reveals for Avatar: Fire and Ash have revealed even more tribes of Pandora, and fans are starting to make even more ATLA comparisons.

According to Empire, there will be more than one tribe introduced in the third Avatar movie. Besides the fire people who will be the central villains of the film, the movie will also introduce Wind Traders, a nomadic tribe that ride flying creatures and travel around the planet. Cameron explains, “They’re nomadic traders, equivalent to the camel caravans of the Spice Road back in the Middle Ages… And you know, they’re just fun. Like all Na’vi, they live in a symbiosis with their creatures.”

Evil fire people, world-trotting air people, and ocean-dwelling water people… now where have we seen that before?

Already the announcement is being flooded with Last Airbender comparisons, and it really isn’t surprising because the story of Cameron’s Avatar has always been pretty simple. If anything, it’s kind of a testament to how elegant the world-building is in Last Airbender that the people of each element are given specific traits; fire people are the villains, and the air people are free and roam the skies.

Avatar: Fire And Ash – concept art

And here I thought Jake’s clan was already representing the air because the first movie referred to the Na’vi as Sky People.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to come to theatres on Dec. 19.

Chris Columbus Working on a Goonies Revival? https://www.geekfeed.com/chris-columbus-working-on-a-goonies-revival/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 15:47:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86124 With the critical reception of Skeleton Crew, more people are starting to talk about its inspiration with The Goonies and how the film actually holds up after all these years.

Now news has it that a Goonies revival is in the works. According to Deadline, Chris Columbus, who co-wrote The Goonies with Steven Spielberg, is currently working on a treatment for a new Goonies film. Not much details have been revealed about the project, but we do know that he’s working on it alongside a revival of the Gremlins as well.

Just like Skeleton Crew, The Goonies focuses on a group of young misfit kids who stumble ito a pirate map and go on a secret treasure hunt. What they didn’t know was the dangers that they would be facing, and all the young adult angst that was going to bubble up to the surface.

The movie was directed by Richard Donner (Superman: The Movie) and starred Sean Astin (Sam from Lord of the Rings) as the lead kid Mikey. The movie also featured Josh Brolin as Mikey’s older brother who gets wrapped along for the ride.

Other stars of the film include Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan (of Indiana Jones fame).

The movie has definitely earned a cult status and has influenced a lot of things following it. Probably the most famous example is Stranger Things, but there are hints at Goonies in projects like Shazam! Fury of the Gods and of course, Skeleton Crew.

We don’t know what a Goonies revival could be about, but knowing current trends, this could be a reboot/sequel focusing on some new kids; maybe Sean Astin or Ke Huy Quan could make an appearance?

Having it be a reunion of the kids as adults going on another adventure does feel like a big swing, but I think there could be a great emotional journey there.

A Goonies sequel hasn’t been officially announced.

Nintendo Officially Unveils the Nintendo Switch 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/nintendo-officially-unveils-the-nintendo-switch-2/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 15:34:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86119 The Nintendo Switch was such a successful console when it launched, and fans have been wondering just when Nintendo will be ready to upgrade it. For years fans have been getting buzz about the Switch 2, but now we have the official reveal.

Check this out:

Just from the video alone, it looks like the Switch 2 is going to be a bit bigger than the original Switch. Doing away with the red and blue, Nintendo is now opting for a black look with some punk and blue highlights on certain parts of the console.

The trailer also doesn’t reveal much about the hardware, but fans are expecting this thing to be at least a little more powerful than the Switch. Though it had some great exclusives, fans thought that it was still pretty limited, and it could easily get out-powered by its fellow gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One. Even the Steam Deck, which is also handheld, boasted the power of a tiny gaming computer.

What we do know is that backwards compatibility will be available with the Switch 2. Take note, while some Switch 1 games can be played, a select few can’t. It probably has something to do with the Switch having third-party options, but we’ll just have to wait and see until Nintendo reveals more.

Not much is known about the Switch 2 yet, but expect more to be revealed during Nintendo Direct which takes place later this year on April 2.

The Man without Fear is Back in Trailer for Daredevil: Born Again https://www.geekfeed.com/cox-is-back-in-trailer-for-daredevil-born-again/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 15:13:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86114 With Skeleton Crew ending this month, Disney+ is now throwing the baton back to Marvel Studios. This March will see the premiere of the highly anticipated Daredevil: Born Again, and a new trailer has just been dropped featuring the returning cast from the Netflix show.

Check this out:

It’s not clear exactly where the series wants to go this time, but it looks like both Matt Murdoch and Wilson Fisk have moved on from their previous entanglement, with Matt dropping his Daredevil persona, and Fisk becoming the mayor of New York.

Though Daredevil and Kingpin are expected to be the central figures of this series, the show has also teased the return of Matt’s friends Foggy Nelson and Karen Paige; as well as an appearance from Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher.

Besides the familiar faces, Daredevil is said to be going up against a new villain in the form of the Muse. Based on street artist Banksy, the Muse is a deranged ‘artist’ who kills people and uses their blood to make his grotesque artwork—kind of like someone out of the Hannibal series.

The Daredevil: Born Again series has undergone a lot of reworks ever since they started development, but it looks like Marvel is now ready to release the series. While it was originally developed like previous miniseries like She-Hulk and Hawkeye, Born Again was said to have adapted the more traditional TV development approach, and fans should expect it to be a property that feels more like a series.

Watch out for Daredevil: Born Again when it comes to Disney+ on March 4.

Star Wars: Is This the Plot for the Mandalorian and Grogu Movie? https://www.geekfeed.com/plot-for-the-mandalorian-and-grogu-movie/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 14:49:54 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86097 Star Wars had been announcing several false starts over the past few years, but it looks like they’re sticking to the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu next year.

Nothing much has been described about the plot of the movie besides that it focuses on the two stars of The Mandalorian series, but Star Wars News Net may have dropped some new details. According to the site, the movie could focus on Din Djarin and his adopted son going on a rescue mission for Rotta the Hutt (a.k.a. the son of Jabba the Hutt played by Jeremy Allen White from The Bear).

Funnily enough, the rescue of Rotta being a plot point would be circling back to The Clone Wars movie that released in theatres; that movie also had Rotta being rescued, but at that point, he was a baby, and his rescuers were Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker.

Besides the rescue mission plot, the site also confirms that another Clone Wars original character Embo would be coming back for the film, and this time, he’ll be voiced by Dave Filoni. Embo has shown up in several episodes of The Clone Wars and has teamed up with all-time favourites like Boba Fett, Bossk, and Asajj Ventress. He’s just another animated character making his way to live-action like Cad Bane did in Book of Boba Fett.

I’ll be honest, the Filoni projects have been mostly nostalgia bait at this point after Ahsoka, and it looks like Mando and Grogu could be going the same direction. Since we don’t have a trailer yet though, I’m willing to give Lucasfilm the benefit of the doubt. We’ll just have to wait and see when we’ll get our first look.

The Mandalorian and Grogu comes to cinemas on May 22, 2026.

Marvel Rivals Devs Planning on Releasing New Heroes Ever Season and a Half https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-rivals-devs-planning-releasing-new-heroes/ Thu, 16 Jan 2025 09:43:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86094 Marvel Rivals is definitely having a big year since it launched, and the game continues to get popular as time goes on. The first season is expected to introduce four heroes total with the Fantastic Four, but the devs are apparently planning to drop several heroes in  a surprisingly fast rate moving forward.

Talking to Metro, game director Guangyun Chen has confirmed that NetEase Games plans to drop a new hero for Marvel Rivals every six weeks. We’ll actually be breaking down each season into two halves,” says Chen, “The length of one season is three months. And for each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero.”

For context, the drop of Season 1 a.k.a. Eternal Night Falls saw the release of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman as playable characters. Six weeks from that launch, fans are expecting to get the release of the Human Torch and the Thing. “

Despite the vampire theme of the season, the devs decided to release the Fantastic Four instead of Blade, who has already leaked last month. Chen even said, “Our choice of heroes will be guided by the overall gameplay experience or theme that we want to create for each season.” Either Marvel forced the Fantastic Four to be introduced right away to keep synergy with the movie coming in July, or they just wanted to introduce Doctor Doom’s rival Reed Richards early into narrative.

Either way, it does look like NetEase has a wealth of incoming characters to keep their roster stacked for the year. Besides the Four, there have also been leaks for characters like Hit-Monkey, Captain Marvel, MODOK, Angela, Blade, and Emma Frost.

My fingers are still crossed we get confirmation for Gwenpool soon; because you can’t have Jeff without a playable Gwenpool.

Marvel Rivals is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

Alien: Romulus Director on Status of a Sequel https://www.geekfeed.com/alien-romulus-director-on-status-of-a-sequel/ Thu, 16 Jan 2025 05:32:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86091 Alien: Covenant may not have made the numbers that the movie was expecting, but the franchise has been brought back thanks to Alien: Romulus.

The movie pretty much has an open-ending with a lot of room for a sequel, and it looks like director Fede Alvarez already has a few ideas of where he wants to go. Talking to Empire, Alvarez says, “Rodo [Sayagues, co-writer] and I are working on that right now… We’re excited about where it can go. We’ve almost checked all of the boxes of things that I want to see [in Romulus], and brought back a lot of the things I hadn’t seen in a while. Wherever we go now, we can go into uncharted waters.”

Though we don’t have any story specifics, Alvarez is said to be very much aiming to continue the story of Cailee Spaeny’s new protagonist Rain, who is once again entering cryo-sleep, hoping to reach a more habitable planet by the end of Romulus.

While that’s a very familiar ending for any fan of the Alien franchise, Alvarez does say, “I think it’ll be so exciting to go with characters you know from this movie, to a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been before, and to discover things that you’ve never seen before.”

With David’s (Michael Fassbender) arc still being open-ended after Covenant, fans are hoping that Alvarez will use his next film to finally connect the two storylines and merge them into a unified arc that ends with David as the main antagonist.

While the Prometheus films weren’t perfect, David was definitely one of the standout characters, and Fassbender’s portrayal as an android was probably one of his best of all time.

Hopefully Alvarez thought the same.

No release date has been announced for a sequel to Alien: Romulus.

“It’s a Story We Need to Tell”: The Russos on Returning for Avengers – Secret Wars https://www.geekfeed.com/the-russos-on-returning-for-avengers-secret-wars/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 09:43:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86088 It looked like Joe and Anthony Russo were passing the torch for Marvel over to a new generation of filmmakers after Avengers: Endgame, but they’re back (along with some other Marvel vets) for the next two Avengers movies.

While some fans think that their return was merely Marvel cashing in on nostalgia—which they probably still are—the Russos have said that they thought that they had a story that just ‘activated’ them creatively. In a recent talk with Empire, Anthony Russo explained:

We’ve had conversations through the years. We’ve talked about a lot of ideas… Really what happened was, we ended up stumbling upon an idea that activated all of us… You couldn’t see it coming until it came, and once it came it was like, ‘Well, that’s a story we need to tell.’”

The Russos are also bringing back their writing partner Steven McFeely, and while he wasn’t onboard initially, McFeely was said to have come back with a great idea for Secret Wars. Joe Russo says, “I remember calling Steve and said, ‘Hey, crazy idea. What do you think if we all go back and do Secret Wars?’… You were like, ‘Fuck no. Absolutely not.’ And then you hung up. And the next morning at 7.30 you called and were like, ‘Alright, I have an idea.’”

So far, it does seem like the main idea for the Russos is going to be the closer with Secret Wars; but fans are currently looking for the immediate Avengers film coming in 2026 which is Doomsday. It’s still unclear how the Russos plan to deal with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom, but it’s safe to say that a lot of fans are definitely skeptical and are thinking that Marvel could be throwing away creativity for a chance at nostalgia-baiting.

Either way, it does seem to make a lot of money at the box office for Disney, and Deadpool and Wolverine managed to gross a billion. I’m just hoping there’s still some room in there for some actual creativity because I’m not someone who just wants to go in the theater and clap when someone familiar shows up onscreen.

Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to come out May 7, 2027.

Sebastian Stan on Whether or Not He’s in Captain America 4 https://www.geekfeed.com/stan-on-whether-or-not-hes-in-captain-america-4/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 09:35:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86084 Since he was onboard for Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a lot of fans were wondering where Bucky went for Captain America: Brave New World. With Stan being a fan-favorite who had great chemistry with Anthony Mackie, he’s been asked if he’s going to show up in some capacity in Cap 4.

In a recent interview with Variety, Stan does the classic Marvel tactic and just dodges the question. Watch this:

He does say about Mackie, “[Filming] ‘Thunderbolts*’ was a much quieter year for me because I didn’t see Anthony Mackie… Although I miss [him] like daily, and it’s something I don’t like to admit.”

Instead of showing up in the next Cap movie, Stan is instead reprising Bucky for Thunderbolts*; where he’ll be alongside two Captain America knockoffs (Red Guardian and US Agent), two Black Widow assassins (Yelena Belova and Taskmaster), a matter-phasing thief (Ghost), and a mentally unstable being with the power of a million exploding suns (Sentry).

Based on the interview, it did seem that Stan did have something to say about appearing in Captain America, but the way Marvel works, he has to be pretty careful. At this point though, it’s probably best to just say he’s in a scene or two rather than have everyone just on the edge of their seats for a small confirmation.

Hopefully Bucky and Sam get reunited in an Avengers movie soon, because the way the franchise looked, it did seem they were the new enemies-turned-besties dynamic; either way, Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova are a close second.

Captain America: Brave New World comes to cinemas on Feb. 14. Thunderbolts* comes to cinemas on May 2.

Ariana Grande being Eyed to Lead Next Matrix Movie? https://www.geekfeed.com/grande-being-eyed-to-lead-next-matrix-movie/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 08:17:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86080 The Wachowskis tried to bring back The Matrix back in 2021 with Matrix Resurrections, but the movie ended up not being the crowdpleaser the studio wanted, and it looked like that was it for any Matrix movies.

Now a rumor has come out that WB is looking to do a Matrix property with Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale), and they definitely have an interesting choice for the lead. According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via ComicBookMovie), one Ariana Grande (Wicked) is being eyed to lead the next Matrix movie.

No details have been set for the next Matrix film, but Goddard does seem to have the Wachowskis in mind when developing this spinoff. “It is not hyperbole to say The Matrix films changed both cinema and my life,” said Goddard, “Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.”

Though Resurrections did manage to bring back a lot of the principal cast like Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss, a lot of the meta-narrative seemed to be lost to fans; and it does seem like the Wachowskis were trying to tell the story of how they were reluctantly tied into making a legacy sequel. Not to mention a lot of the COVID restrictions around the time of shooting probably made the production hard to pull off. We wonder whether Grande will be able to pull it off if the rumors are true.

So far, it does seem like Goddard may have a more audience-friendly version of The Matrix in mind. I’m just hoping he somehow manages to tie-in Resurrections one way or another.

No release date has been announced for the next Matrix movie.

Rachel Zegler Eyed for Phantom of the Opera Remake? https://www.geekfeed.com/zegler-eyed-for-phantom-of-the-opera-remake/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 08:09:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86076 Rachel Zegler has starred in remakes for West Side Story and Snow White, but word is going around she’s going to be in another remake of a high-profile musical.

According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via ComicBookMovie), Zegler is being eyed to star in a Phantom of the Opera remake from High School Musical director Kenny Ortega. It’s said that Zegler is being eyed to play Christine, the leading lady and the object of the Phantom’s desire. It’s said that this version of the movie is going to be a ‘YA take’, and is going to stream on Disney+. So far, the premise for the movie still feels unchanged from previous versions. The story is said to focus on, “a mysterious, disfigured musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. He becomes obsessed with a young soprano, Christine, and manipulates events to make her the star of the opera.”

Take note, MTTSH has been wrong before, but Phantom of the Opera being primed for a remake for younger audiences, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Disney was going to take a stab at it.

I’ll admit, I am a bit worried for Zegler. She’s no doubt a talented actress and singer, but she’s somehow entered the hot seat that Brie Larson was in a few years ago, and has been the target of several ‘anti-woke’ fandoms online, attacking everything she says and does.

Admittedly, a straight-to-streaming YA Phantom of the Opera movie does seem like it’s beneath Zegler at this point, having led a Hunger Games movie and West Side Story. But if the movie does get her, they would definitely have nabbed a great talent, and I can’t wait to see her rendition of Christine.

No release date has been announced for Phantom.

Ewan McGregor Reprising Obi-Wan for Ahsoka Season 2? https://www.geekfeed.com/mcgregor-reprising-obi-wan-for-ahsoka-season-2/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 05:16:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86073 Ewan McGregor returned as Obi-Wan Kenobi in his own Disney+ series, but the show didn’t manage to make massive waves and a second season is nowhere in sight. However, it looks like McGregor could be coming back in another capacity.

According to Star Wars News Net, McGregor could be making another comeback as Obi-Wan in the second season of Ahsoka. It’s said that he would be reprising Obi-Wan during a Clone Wars flashback and will also share scenes with Ariana Greenblatt, who plays the younger Ahsoka.

Besides McGregor, the site also says that Hayden Christensen is going to return in a bigger role as Anakin Skywalker this time around. Christensen had a recurring role as Anakin in the first season as a hologram, then as a vision, but he comes back as a Force Ghost to connect with Ahsoka by the end of the season.

With Dave Filoni at the helm of the series, it’s no mystery that Ahsoka was littered with all kinds of Easter Eggs to previously established lore; but a lot of fans have caught wise to Filoni’s tendency for nostalgia-baiting, and a lot weren’t too happy with Ahsoka’s character essentially being a bland Jedi who spends most of the series crossing her arms and slightly smiling at Sabine.

It’s unclear if Filoni was able to address this problem for the second season, but with him also working on the Mandalorian and Grogu movie, it’s best to assume that he’s been pretty busy since Ahsoka aired.

Ahsoka Season 2 is set to start shooting this year, and Lucasfilm is planning to release The Mandalorian and Grogu in theatres on May 22, 2026.

Logan Director James Mangold Confirms the Setting of His ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ https://www.geekfeed.com/mangold-confirms-setting-of-dawn-of-the-jedi/ Sun, 12 Jan 2025 06:52:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86053 Star Wars may have taken a break from the box office since 2019, but Lucasfilm has been slowly cooking with a bunch of incoming movies—one of them being a prequel from Indiana Jones director James Mangold. While there hasn’t been any official reveals for his Dawn of the Jedi movie, he does confirm when the film will be set.

Talking to MovieWeb, Mangold shares, “The Star Wars movie would be taking place 25,000 years before any known Star Wars movies takes place. It’s an area and a playground that I’ve always [wanted to explore] and that I was inspired by as a teenager. I’m not that interested in being handcuffed by so much lore at this point that it’s almost immovable, and you can’t please anybody.”

With the thousand-years gap, this would be the farthest a live-action property has went back in time in terms of the original canon. Before Dawn of the Jedi, there was The Acolyte, which took place around the High Republic era, roughly a hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

While we don’t have specific story details for Dawn of the Jedi, Mangold has said in an old interview that his movie would deal with the first Jedi and the discovery of the Force. He told Empire, “It’s about the discovery of the Force… I told Kathy [Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm] I wanted to make a kind of Bible movie, a kind of Ten Commandments of Star Wars – kind of a Cecil B DeMille film about the arrival of the Force, and that’s what I’ve been pecking away at between press events. That’s the idea.”

It’s certainly a fascinating concept, and one that has barely been showcased in the live-action Star Wars media. Admittedly, there’s so much toxic scrutiny whenever a Star Wars thing comes out nowadays, but hopefully the obscurity of the timeline will make the haters back down.

But let’s face it, the moment they announce the lead is a POC or woman, this project is going to fuel months of grifter hate way before the movie releases.

Let’s just hope that Lucasfilm learned their lesson from the Sequel Trilogy.

Dawn of the Jedi is yet to receive a release date.

Release Window for Ranma ½ Season 2 Confirmed? https://www.geekfeed.com/release-window-for-ranma-%c2%bd-season-2-confirmed/ Sun, 12 Jan 2025 06:49:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86050 One of Rumiko Takahashi’s most beloved series is back with the Ranma ½ reboot, and fans are happy to know that a second season is already underway. While fans thought they would have to wait until the later part of the year for Ranma and Akane to make a return, the release window may have been revealed to be much closer.

According to fan account @ramu_animes, the second season of Ranma could be coming out this April. Here’s the post:

https://twitter.com/ramu_animes/status/1877188850117734663

Since this isn’t the official page, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt, but an April release does seem realistic—depending on how far the series was into production by the time the first season aired.

We don’t know how far the second season is going to go when it comes to the story, but it has been teased that Shampoo’s own suitor Mousse is going to be making an appearance. With Shampoo also leaving for China by the end of the first season, it’s very likely that the second season will feature her comeback and one more inconvenient curse for Ranma.

So far, reception for the anime has been great, and new generation of fans are now getting into the world of Ranma ½. Though the original anime is considered a cult classic, the reboot has been lauded for being more fair in its portrayal of Akane—who manga-readers thought was made too mean in the original manga.

Plus, the reboot isn’t as sexed up as the original anime, which a lot of loyal manga fans thought was an huge improvement.

The second season of Ranma ½ is allegedly coming back this April.

Andy Serkis Helped Bring the Thing to Life in Fantastic Four: First Steps https://www.geekfeed.com/serkis-in-fantastic-four-first-steps/ Sun, 12 Jan 2025 06:47:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86046 Andy Serkis is the motion-capture guy when it comes to movies, and he helped pioneer the method way back during the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Though Serkis may have his Marvel days behind him, it’s been revealed that he’s actually had a hand at working on The Thing/Ben Grimm for Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps. This was confirmed by actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Moss-Bachrach says:

Andy Serkis, who’s sort of the godfather of motion capture, he’s got this company called The Imaginarium, which is at Pinewood Studio where we shot Fantastic Four, and he was very generous.”

While the Thing suit was originally practical for the 2000s Fantastic Four movies, this time he’s going to be completely motion capture—like Marvel did with the Hulk and Thanos. Moss-Bachrach describes the process:

“I’ve seen a very crude rendering as it takes a while to build this stuff. They have so many animators working on this. I wear these motion capture suits, two cameras right here so they’re capturing absolutely everything, every nuance, every expression, every thought in my eye.”

Though we’ve gotten a look at photos of the Thing for the movie, we have never really seen it in action yet. What we do know that he’s going to be fairly large—larger than the Thing in the 2000s movies—and he’s going to have the prominent brow that was a feature of the Thing in the comics.

With the movie set to come out in July, fans are wondering when Marvel is going to be ready to give fans the first official trailer for the film. If anything, they could be gearing up for the release of Captain America 4; maybe after that movie comes out, we can finally get a look at Marvel’s First Family.

Catch Fantastic Four: First Steps when it releases in theaters on July 25.

A Sex Robot Goes Off Book in Trailer for Companion https://www.geekfeed.com/a-sex-robot-goes-off-book-in-companion-trailer/ Sun, 12 Jan 2025 06:44:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86042 Barbarian was one of the craziest horror movies to come out in recent memory, and the same team is coming back for a movie called Companion starring Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets). The movie is set to come out later this month, and it just got an interesting new trailer.

Check this out:

The movie is being very intentionally vague about their marketing, and the only synopsis that fans have so far is this: A billionaire’s death sets off a chain of events for Iris and her friends during a weekend trip to his lakeside estate.

By the looks of it, Thatcher is playing some kind of sophisticated sex robot that is altered by Quaid’s character, but things go horribly awry when she becomes sentient and starts going after her owners.

If you’ve watched Barbarian, you’ll expect Companion to have an unpredictable story that just goes to unexpected places. While the sex robot thing could be one part of the story, it’s possible that the trailer is hiding some other big twist that could come out of nowhere.

I’ll admit, a January release looks like the studio didn’t have much faith in the movie, but so far Companion looks interesting, and the quality of Barbarian alone should entice someone to check out the movie. It should be a great herald to the upcoming Valentine’s season. Who wants to take their girlfriend to see Captain America 4?

Watch out for Companion when it hit theatres on Jan 31.

Latest Trailer for Mythic Quest 4 Tackles AI and Video Game Ethics https://www.geekfeed.com/mythic-quest-4-tackles-ai-and-video-game-ethics/ Sun, 12 Jan 2025 06:33:37 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=86037 Mythic Quest is probably one of the best shows on Apple TV+ that no one is checking out right now, and the series is set to have its fourth season later this month.

Just in, a new trailer has dropped, and it brings us back to the crazy MQ studio where Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) and Ian (Rob McElhenney) are once again allowed to run amok and make one of the best multiplayer online games of all time. Check this out:

The official description for Season 4 reads:

Season four of Mythic Quest brings stars Rob McElhenney, Charlotte Nicdao, David Hornsby, Danny Pudi, Ashly Burch, Imani Hakim, Jessie Ennis and Naomi Ekperigin back together under the same fluorescent office lights. The reunited team at Mythic Quest confronts new challenges amongst a changing video game landscape as stars rise, egos clash, relationships bloom and everyone tries to have a little more work work life balance.

The series has always tried to tackle actual issues when it comes to the game industry, and we can see some of that in the trailer with Ian getting his own AI clone as well as David being forced to go to a senate hearing where he has to defend the ethics of profiting off children with video games.

It also looks likea lot of the supporting cast have been given larger roles like community manager Sue (Caitleen McGee) and HR manager Carol (Naomi Ekperigin).

I’ll admit, the last season of MQ was kind of middling when it came to the video game industry stuff, but the character work is still very great and emotional. We don’t know how long Mythic Quest is going to run, but I’m hoping that Apple gives the creators as much time as they can to deliver a stellar season every year.

Mythic Quest 4 premieres on Apple TV+ on Jan. 29.
