Though the show only lasted for one season, there was a lot of exploration when it came to Nick’s character, and though audiences never got to see his end, Segel actually thought that Nick Andopolis would actually have a pretty tragic story.

For context, Freaks and Geeks was a period setting that took place in 1980, and talking to GQ, Segel explains that he believes that Nick will die in the war as a soldier (specifically the Iraq War based on the timeline of the show). Segel explains:

“The sad answer to where I think Nick is now, in my mind, he gets sent off to war and doesn’t make it. That was always like the threat looming for Nick, and that’s what happens to a lot of men of that generation and socioeconomic statuses. That’s how I was always thinking of playing him. It was like, for Nick, the desperation in his character is that the alternative is not making it. That’s how he felt. He’s like, ‘I’m gonna drum my way out of this.’ How sad, ‘cause you’re not gonna drum your way out of it.”

In Freaks and Geeks, Nick is part of the Freaks group, and eventually gets into a relationship with the series lead Lindsay (Linda Cardellini). Nick is arguably the nicest person of the bunch, but he does get into a story arc where he gets addicted to weed. He eventually cleans himself up, but he does end up losing Lindsay by the end of the show.

For now, there are really no plans to follow-up to Freaks and Geeks, but the one season is still considered by a lot of fans to be definitive when it comes to Apatow’s brand of comedy. Maybe there could be a reunion down the line, but seeing that James Franco is cancelled, it’s probably never going to happen any time soon.

Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt Team-Up in Latest Trailer for The Electric State https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-trailer-for-the-electric-state/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 18:58:03 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85715 The Russo Brothers are going back to Marvel to direct Avengers: Doomsday, but the two also have a big-budget special effects movie with Netflix called The Electric State.

The film has two huge stars at the helm with Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, and we just got a new teaser. Check this out:

The official description of the film reads:

Set in a retro-futuristic past, this blockbuster adventure from filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager who traverses the American West in search of her younger brother. Joining her on the journey is a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter (Chris Pratt).

Besides Pratt and Brown, the movie has also managed to gather an impressive roster of cast members which include Jason Alexander, Stanley Tucci, Ke Huy Quan, and Giancarlo Esposito. There are even voice cameos from the likes of Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Alan Tudyk, Jenny Slate, and Hank Azaria (to name a few),

I’ll admit, the Russos haven’t had a hit since Avengers: Endgame, and this return for Doomsday seems like them just going back to what feels safe. After this trailer though, I have to admit the concept is pretty neat, and Brown and Pratt are solid actors—so Electric State has a lot of great things going for it.

I just hope that Netflix allows for a theatrical release sometime next year, because this honestly looks like it deserves a theatrical experience.

Catch The Electric State when it comes to Netflix on March 14, 2025.

First Images Released for Jurassic World: Rebirth Starring Scarlett Johansson https://www.geekfeed.com/first-images-released-for-jurassic-world-rebirth/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 18:50:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85711 Rogue One director Gareth Edwards may not be returning to Star Wars anytime soon, but like Colin Trevorrow before him, he’s jumped into the Jurassic World arena and is at the helm of the next movie Rebirth.

The film is led by Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey and is set to release next year. Though we don’t have a trailer yet, we do have some official photos via Entertainment Weekly. Check these out:

Though most of the movie’s plot is under wraps for now, Edwards does tell EW a bit about the approach of the movie, with them attempting to recapture the magic of the original Jurassic Park from Steven Spielberg. Edwards explains:

“I can’t speak for Universal, but it did feel like a new trilogy, in a way… I’m not sure what their plans are, but it felt like the beginning of a brand-new chapter in this franchise. To me, it’s a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films. There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of Jaws. It’s like little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child. It’s essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really.”

Edwards goes on to explain that they actually shot a lot of the film on location, and they had to bring everyone into an actual jungle, with actual wild animals. He says, “We kept it quiet from the actors as they spent a whole day wading through the same area. And there were giant spiders that were poisonous and stuff on the edge of the trees. You just wouldn’t point them out if you saw them. Just keep going!”

After his work on The Creator, Edwards has solidified himself as a visual auteur around the same level of Neill Blomkamp. Admittedly, his last movie wasn’t the best when it came to plot, but fans are hopeful that Rebirth will manage to rejuvenate Edwards’ career moving forward.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is set to release in theaters on July 2, 2025.

A Second Season of Secret Level has been Greenlit https://www.geekfeed.com/a-second-season-of-secret-level-has-been-greenlit/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 18:43:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85708 We may not be getting a new season of Love, Death, and Robots soon, but Amazon Prime Video is delivering on the animated anthology series genre with Secret Level. The series just premiered on the streaming platform, and it looks like we’re going to be seeing more of it.

According to Variety, Secret Level has already been renewed by Amazon for a second season. No new details have been revealed, but it is said that the show has managed to become the most-watched animated series debut on the platform. The series was apparently able to gather 155.3 million minutes watched in the US alone.

Though Love, Death and Robots was successful on its own, Secret Level has a major advantage in that every short is based on an existing IP, whether it be Warhammer, Pac-Man, or Dungeons and Dragons. A lot of fans have been asking for a Mega Man series for years and though it isn’t a full film, an entry in Secret Level is probably the next best thing.

Not to mention the series has also managed to gather a lot of great talent. Besides the likes of Temuera Morrison and Ariana Greenblatt (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), the series also has some A-listers like Arnod Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, and Keanu Reeves.

We don’t know what the next season could bring, but hopefully we get some great entries from incoming and existing IP. A lot of fans want more Warhammer 40,000, but an entry from The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077 would be great. How about that Overwatch short finally, or a Marvel Rivals episode?

Catch Secret Level now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

James Gunn’s Superman will Not Feature an Origin Story https://www.geekfeed.com/superman-will-not-feature-an-origin-story/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 18:38:38 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85705 The DCU is gearing up for its first major motion picture with James Gunn’s Superman, but so much of the movie is being kept under wraps that we don’t know how this one will set up the new timeline.

Talking to The Wrap, Gunn reveals a little about the new set-up and how everything is different by the time audiences meet David Corenswet’s Clark Kent. He says, “We just start in the middle of the action. Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other.”

Though the relationship between Lois and Superman is already present in the movie, it looks like rivalry with Luthor is yet to begin. Gunn continues, “Lex hates Superman’s guts from the beginning, although they don’t know each other personally… So we start right in the middle of the action. It takes place over a short amount of time.”

Gunn can’t reveal much about the story, but it does seem that the relationship between Lois and Clark is going to be at the very heart of Superman. So many people already have an ideal dynamic for the couple, but Gunn does tease that their relationship will be different this time around. “The relationship between David and Rachel’s [characters] on screen is something I don’t think we’ve seen in… It’s a complicated relationship and we really get into it and there’s long scenes that are about their relationship and the way they relate and what it would be like for a person who’s this incredibly intelligent, strong-headed, stubborn, skeptical journalist, to have a relationship with someone who can lift a skyscraper.”

Though Superman may be the star of the show, the fact that they’ve cast Rachel Brosnahan—who is arguably more famous than Corenswet—as Lois could mean that she’s the one who’s going to be commanding a lot of the scenery whenever she’s around Clark.

Then again, this is just speculation, so until the trailer comes out this week, all we can really do is guess.

Superman is set to come out in theatres on July 11, 2025.

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio Team-Up in First Trailer for Karate Kid: Legends https://www.geekfeed.com/first-trailer-for-karate-kid-legends/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 18:34:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85701 The kids of Cobra Kai may be grown-up now, but the Karate Kid franchise is now gearing up for the next generation of butt-kicking teens.

Karate Kid: Legends is set to release next year, and a new trailer has been dropped featuring Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, and the new series lead Ben Wang. Check this out:

The official description reads:

In Karate Kid: Legends, after a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere.

When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.

The story pretty much mirrors the original Karate Kid where they take a bullied young teen and turn him into a martial arts fighter. With the story having taken place in Los Angeles and China, now the story is set in the Concrete Jungle of New York City.

I have to admit, Cobra Kai feels like the definitive sequel to the Karate Kid franchise, but this one does have an interesting premise that it brings together the worlds of the Macchio-led universe and the one that once starred Jaden Smith.

So far, Ben Wang does seem like he has the chops to be the next lead after Xolo Mariduena. I just hope that the movie acknowledges Johnny Lawrence one way or another.

Karate Kid: Legends is set to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.

Pixar Series Win or Lose Removes Transgender Story Arc as Per Disney’s Demands https://www.geekfeed.com/win-or-lose-removes-transgender-story-arc/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 18:12:07 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85696 Despite efforts for more diversity and inclusion in its movies, it looks like Disney is still figuring out where they really stand when it comes to the issue.

According to a new report from THR, Disney had apparently forced Pixar to remove a transgender storyline in their upcoming series Win or Lose. The series is set to run for eight episodes, with each entry focusing on a different member of a middle school softball team called the Pickles.

Though it’s not the main focus of the show, one character was supposed to have an arc where they struggle with their transgender identity; and Disney has decided to pull the arc and all the references to the character being trans; if it’s any consolation, the character will still be in the series, but forget them mentioning anything about being transgender.

A spokesperson at Disney explains in a statement:

“When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”

When it comes to children’s content, there does seem to be an issue when it comes to trans visibility. It has been said that though Disney publicly celebrates LGBTQ+ representation, they secretly censor the content so it would be able to fly in more conservative markets like China.

It’s certainly a shame that this had to happen with Win or Lose, but maybe the creators can find a way to get the story told even if Disney doesn’t want it to be part of the official series.

Win or Lose is set to release on Disney+ on Feb. 19, 2025.

Warfare Trailer: Alex Garland Co-Directs with Iraq War Veteran Ray Mendoza https://www.geekfeed.com/warfare-trailer-alex-garland-co-directs/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 17:59:43 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85687 After Civil War, it seemed like director Alex Garland was going to go back to his usual sci-fi niche, but it does seem like he’s gotten bit by the modern warfare genre bug.

Just in, A24 has dropped a new trailer for Warfare which is co-directed by Garland and an Iraq war veteran Ray Mendoza—who also wrote the script. Check this out:

The simple tagline for the movie reads: “‘Warfare’ embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory… A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.”

The part of Mendoza in the film is played by D’pharaoh Woon-A-Tai. Other stars in the movie include Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four: First Steps), Charles Melton (May December), Cosmo Jarvis (Shogun), and Noah Centineo (Black Adam).

Just based on the trailer and Civil War, we know that Garland can definitely capture the whole warfare vibe. It’s just different this time around with Mendoza co-directing because he was actually in that story, and his recollection is more vivid and authentic.

Admittedly, there have been a lot of films centered on the whole war in Iraq, but this one looks like it’s going to be a more experimental take which focuses on one specific mission that goes awry—plus it’s told in real-time.

Warfare is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2025.

James Gunn Shares First Poster for Superman and Possible Score https://www.geekfeed.com/james-gunn-shares-first-poster-for-superman/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 17:45:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85681 Superman directed by James Gunn is considered to be one of the biggest movies of 2025, and it’s set to launch the rebooted DCU in theatres. A new trailer is expected to drop this Thursday, and Gunn has shared the official poster as well as a possible tease for the theme.

Check this out:

Though the theme does sound new, it’s actually John Williams’ original Superman theme, but slowed down. It has been said that Williams’ original score will be part of the 2025 movie, and the composer John Murphy (The Suicide Squad) is going to be incorporating it into what could be a wholly original theme. Here’s the original Williams score just to compare:

Music has always been essential to the characterization of Superman, and that’s why his theme from the original movie is still so iconic. That being said, I did love that the DCEU did attempt at giving each hero original themes. Hans Zimmer’s score for Man of Steel was a great follow-up, and even Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman theme has its own place in the fandom’s heart.

The pressure is on for Gunn and Peter Safran to deliver a new DCU, and after middling reviews for Creature Commandos, people are hoping that Superman manages to be something different from Gunn this time. After Guardians, his signature bits have started to get obvious to a lot of his fans.

Watch out for Superman when it soars into theatres on July 11, 2025.

Ciri has been Recast for The Witcher IV https://www.geekfeed.com/ciri-has-been-recast-for-the-witcher-iv/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 17:12:45 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85677 A lot of fans were excited for The Witcher IV announcement when it was revealed in this year’s Game Awards, and though a lot of fans were expecting Geralt to be the lead again, it was Ciri who was revealed to be the Witcher in the game.

Despite the continuation of the series, it looks like CD Projekt Red has decided to recast the voice actress for Geralt’s successor. As confirmed by The Gamer, Ciri’s voice in the trailer is provided by one Ciara Berkley. The CDPR representative said:

“Ciara Berkeley was cast as Ciri for The Witcher IV Cinematic Reveal Trailer. Ciara is a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series.”

The original voice actress for the part was Jo Wyatt, but there was no explanation on why she wasn’t coming back for the sequel. While some may think the quote could just mean that Berkley is just providing the voice for the cinematic, it has been confirmed that she’s indeed taking over the role for the actual game.

For now, The Witcher IV is said to be in full production, and we should expect it to be a while before the game actually launches. Though The Witcher was what put CDPR on the map, the fiasco of Cyberpunk has led to the studio putting most of their focus on salvaging their rep for several years after a poor launch.

Fingers crossed that The Witcher IV will manage to please fans of Wild Hunt as well as bring in some new fans. It is considered the start of a new trilogy after all.

No release date has been set for The Witcher IV, but we should expect the game to launch for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 sometime in the next two years.

Seth Rogen Wants to be in a Live-Action Emperor’s New Groove https://www.geekfeed.com/rogen-live-action-emperors-new-groove/ Tue, 17 Dec 2024 09:31:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85672 Emperor’s New Groove may not be the most popular Disney animated movie, but it definitely has a special place in the hearts of every millennial who managed to watch it.

With Disney starting to adapt films from their experimental era like Lilo & Stitch, Lion King star Seth Rogen has a pitch for a Disney adaptation that he would like to work on—The Emperor’s New Groove. Check out this clip from DiscussingFilm:

Rogen didn’t say anything about the movie besides, “I wanna be in it!” but at least it’s confirmation that he actually likes the movie—a testament to its quality despite it being considered a disappointment at the box office compared to other Disney animated films.

There is actually a whole big behind-the-scenes story about how The Emperor’s New Groove got made, and it apparently was going through development hell before they got to the comedy film that was eventually released. Originally the movie was supposed to be called Empire of the Sun, and it was supposed to be a dramatic retelling of The Prince and the Pauper. It was all documented in the 2002 film The Sweatbox.

Since the movie is considered a comedy, it’s very possible that’s the same direction that a remake could go, but we don’t know what Disney has up their sleeves. Even Snow White somehow became a freedom fighter story, and even other films like Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan got major story overhauls.

In the meantime, catch Rogen as Pumbaa in Mufasa: The Lion King which comes to cinemas on Dec. 20.

Malcolm in the Middle Revival Announced for Disney+ https://www.geekfeed.com/malcolm-in-the-middle-revival-announced/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 16:06:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85653 Malcolm in the Middle was a genre-defining sitcom  that ran from 2000-2006, and the series has achieved a cult status over the years.

Revivals have been requested for Malcolm for a while, and now Disney+ is looking to deliver with a revival announced with stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek. Check this out:

According to Variety, the logline reads:

“Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”

Besides the returning cast members in the announcement, fans are also expecting a return from the rest of Malcolm’s family including Reese (Justin Berfield), Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), Francis (Christopher Masterson), and Jamie (James and Lukas Rodriguez). The final episode also revealed Lois was pregnant with a sixth child, but we don’t know where that story goes yet. Maybe even Malcom’s best friend Stevie (Craig Lamar Traylor) can show up as well.

Malcolm in the Middle revolutionized the sitcom genre by embracing the lower-middle class status of Malcolm’s family and their everyday struggles. It also popularized the single-camera comedy format, and had racked up 33 Emmy nominations throughout its entire run.

Though some may be bummed that the revival is only four episodes, it does allow for one solid narrative that updates everyone on where Malcolm and his family are now after all this time. Plus, with the original creator Linwood Boomer onboard, we should expect a continuation of the story that feels organic and true to the show.

No release date has been set for the Malcolm in the Middle revival on Disney+.

Skeleton Crew: Jude Law on Jack Silvo and Why He Hates Children https://www.geekfeed.com/skeleton-crew-jude-law-on-jack-silvo-hate-kids/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 15:10:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85650 Skeleton Crew is giving off a lot of 80s adventure movie vibes, and Jude Law is cast as the adult among a cast of lost children. What’s funny is that, Law’s character Jod Na Nawood/Jack Silvo kind of hates children, and it’s all part of his backstory.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Law reveals, I would say is that [Jack’s] not someone who’s had a childhood. He’s someone who’s kind of had his childhood snatched away from him, and it’s why he looks at the kids sort of with disdain. They’re just small adults. Why don’t they understand they’ve got to get on and survive? And why are they so inexperienced? He has no real concept of innocence.”

Though it’s pretty clear that Jack is a pirate, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding him—specifically if he has any Force-sensitive powers. Law doesn’t outright say whether Jack can control the Force, but he does hint that his backstory is going to be explored near the end of the series. He continues:

That doesn’t really come out until right near the end when you really get an insight into his backstory and why he may be a Force user and is Force-sensitive. And it was a detail that was always there, but [creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford) and I really went back and made sure we were all on the same page as to where he was born and what happened.”

There’s a ton of speculation going around about Jack as a character, but at this point, the twist could be that he was Force-sensitive after all, but he wasn’t a Jedi. My personal guess is that he was a padawan during the Purge that managed to escape by becoming a pirate; but that’s already a story that’s pretty close to Fallen Order. Then again, Cal Kestis’ direction went a completely different way. I’m all up for Jude Law, space pirate Jedi.

Adamantium Gets Name-Dropped in Latest Look at Captain America: Brave New World https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-look-at-captain-america-brave-new-world/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 14:58:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85646 It looks like some rumors are coming true for Captain America: Brave New World.

We know that the movie has been getting constant rewrites and reshoots, but one rumored plot point for the film is the discovery of the invulnerable metal Adamantium which is said to be located in the island of Tiamut.

Just in, a new look at the movie has been dropped, and it confirms that Adamantium has become a highly coveted resource—almost the same as how the MCU treats Vibranium. Check this out:

Admittedly, this is more generically action-heavy compared to previous versions of the film, but it also does give a tease for Staniel Stern a.k.a. The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) who seems to have half of his head enlarged thanks to his encounter with Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk.

He’s been missing in the universe since 2008, but a lot of people think that his emergence as the secret puppetmaster of the government could be an interesting take on Hulk villain The Leader. Who knows, maybe President Ross is just a victim in all of this when he ends up being turned into the Red Hulk.

Like a lot of fans, I’m admittedly very worried about Brave New World. Though I believe they started with a solid story, the constant reshoots and rewrites after poor test screenings may have resulted in a by-the-numbers film that barely represents the story they originally wanted to tell.

I’m still hoping Sam Wilson’s Captain America debut is a success, but as of now, fans are worried that Marvel is going to mess this one up—especially with all the hype surrounding the project.

Catch Captain America: Brave New World when it comes to cinemas on Feb. 14.

Naughty Dog Unveils Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet https://www.geekfeed.com/naughty-dog-intergalactic-the-heretic-prophet/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 14:50:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85610 Naughty Dog has come a long way from Crash Bandicoot with hyper-realistic titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us; and thanks to The Game Awards, they’ve just unveiled their newest incoming IP—Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Check out the trailer:

The official description reads:

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the newest franchise in development for the PlayStation 5 console from Naughty Dog, the studio behind acclaimed series like The Last of Us and UNCHARTED. Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic puts players into the role of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.

Though sci-fi properties are dime-a-dozen nowadays, Intergalactic is very specific in that it makes use of retro sci-fi—in that everything is kind of a blend of the future if it was imagined in the 80s. There’s a lot of analog technology in Jordan’s ship, and you can even see her making use of CDs.

It’s said that the game is inspired heavily by sci-fi properties like Akira and Cowboy Bebop, and even director Neil Druckmann states that it’s the ‘deepest’ Naughty Dog has ever went when it comes to gameplay.

The cast is led by Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and also includes the likes of Troy Baker, Kumail Nanjiani, and Tony Dalton. It’s also worth mentioning that the music is coming from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, members of Nine Inch Nails and recent providers for the score of Tron: Ares and Challengers.

No release date has been set for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but fans are hoping the game comes out sometime in 2025 for the PS5.

Novocaine: The Boys’ Jack Quaid Can’t Literally Get Hurt in New Action Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/novocaine-the-boys-jack-quaid-in-trailer/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 14:23:49 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85642 Jack Quaid is best known for playing everyman Hughie in The Boys, but now he’s set to take the action spotlight in the upcoming action movie Novacaine.

Here’s the first trailer:

Here’s the official logline for the movie: When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.

The movie is directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen who are best known for their films Villains, Body, and Significant Other. Besides Quaid and Midthunder, the movie also has appearances from Betty Gabriel, Jacob Batalon, and Matt Walsh (the good one).

Though we’ve gotten a lot of action/revenge movies over the past few years like John Wick and Monkey Man, this one has a new twist to the story in that the lead Novocaine is just an everyman, but he can’t really feel pain.

Quaid seems to be the perfect choice for this character seeing that he’s mostly considered out of place in these action franchises, but that doesn’t mean he can’t kick butt when he needs to. It’s also funny that they’re pairing him with MCU Spider-Man’s Jacob Batalon, since Quaid has also done a small voice role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse; he was Spider-Gwen’s original Peter (the one that transformed into The Lizard).

Watch out for Novocaine when it comes to cinemas on March 14.

Harley and Ivy Move to Metropolis in Latest Trailer for Harley Quinn Season 5 https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-trailer-for-harley-quinn-season-5/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 12:13:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85606 It may be a while before Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn comes back to cinemas (if at all), but Kaley Cuoco’s animated version is thriving on Max, and the show is gearing up for its fifth season.

Just in, a new trailer has been dropped for Harley Quinn Season 5, and it has Gotham in ruins, with Harley and Ivy deciding to move to the shining beacon of tomorrow which is Metropolis. Check this out:

Though Harley and Ivy do move to a new city, it does look like a lot of the old cast is back from Gotham with Bane, King Shark, and Clayface still hanging around. With Metropolis though, it does bring in some more familiar characters like Lois Lane, and of course, Superman.

There’s also the looming threat of Superman villain Brainiac who is always up to some kind of world-ending shenanigans. It’s even so bad that the Joker is teaming up with everyone just to stop him.

Admittedly DC is currently in a transition period with the live-action films, but the animation front has always been steady. Besides the occasionally released animated films based on comic properties, shows like Harley Quinn continue to add some more variety in DC entries with it filling the void for adult comedy shows—even Marvel doesn’t have that with all their Disney+ success.

Aardman Studios Announces Collab with Pokemon https://www.geekfeed.com/aardman-studios-announces-collab-with-pokemon/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 12:06:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85603 Aardman Studios is a legend when it comes to stop motion animation, and while they’re best known for properties like Wallace and Gromit, they’ve been doing some collaborations with other brands recently like Star Wars and Over The Garden Wall.

Now their next collab has been announced, and it’s with mega-brand Pokemon. Check out the post:

It hasn’t been confirmed what kind of project the collaboration is going to be, but with a release date set for 2027, it’s possible this could be something long-form, like a movie or a miniseries. According to VGC, the announcement said:

“The collaboration will see Aardman bringing its unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures.”

The Pokemon Company International VP of marketing Taito Okiura also said about the collab, “This is a dream partnership for Pokémon… Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!”

Though Pokemon is best known for being an anime property outside of the games, there was an attempt at a stop-motion miniseries last year with Netflix’s Pokemon Concierge. It didn’t exactly have Aardman’s cartoon flare, but it does give people an idea of how Pokemon can work in the medium.

We don’t know when Aardman will be ready to make their official reveal for the project, but it’s kind of puzzling why they would announce a collaboration that’s 3 years away from release. Don’t they usually make reveals a few months before the premiere?

Expect the Pokemon x Aardman collab to come out sometime in 2027.

Kraven the Hunter: Sony’s Spider-Verse Officially Dead? https://www.geekfeed.com/kraven-the-hunter-spider-verse-officially-dead/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 11:57:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85600 A lot of people have been saying that Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (or the SUMC) was a bad idea, but Venom apparently made money, and Sony has been trying to replicate the success with Morbius, Madame Web, and now Kraven the Hunter.

Though it has been rumoured that Sony is building up to a team-up movie with Knull, it looks like that won’t be happening anymore. According to The Wrap, Kraven may be the real “last dance” for the SUMC, and now Sony is just going to be focusing on three upcoming Spidey projects—Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland, Beyond the Spider-Verse, and the live-action Spider-Noir with Nicolas Cage.

When it came to the closing of the SUMC, an insider had said, “The biggest issue with the Sony Spider-Man spinoffs seems to be the lack of quality control. The movies just aren’t good… Sometimes that lack of quality meets a movie no one asked for, which was the case with Madame Web, and that is a no-win scenario. It may be time for Sony to start cultivating different IP to launch new franchises.”

As a staunch defender of Madame Web as an enjoyable camp movie, there’s no denying that the spinoffs outside of Venom have all been big flops, and even reviews for Kraven have not been nice to the film.

If anything, there’s still a chance for these characters to show up down the line as actual Spider-Man villains. We don’t know what Sony has planned, but maybe they can just shift focus on various different Spider-People as compared to just making villain movies that don’t mention Spider-Man at all.

Kraven the Hunter comes to cinemas this week on Dec. 13.

Rick Holds Auditions in Teaser for Rick and Morty’s Next Season https://www.geekfeed.com/auditions-in-teaser-for-rick-and-mortys-s08/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 11:51:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85596 The Rick and Morty train continues to chug along, and the next season is set to come out sometime in 2025. Just in, a new teaser has been dropped, and it has Rick throwing some auditions for a character that the show is constantly shitting on—and it’s not Morty.

Check this out:

Though this can be chalked off as another bit where Rick just hates Jerry, a meta lens would read it as a joke about the recasting of original Rick and Morty voice actor Justin Roiland with Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden.

It’s ironic that Rick (voiced by Cardoni) is looking for someone to replace Jerry, since Rick’s voice actor was replaced; and Jerry is still pretty much voiced by his original voice actor Chris Parnell. In fact, the only original voice actors that are still attached to the show are Parnell, Spencer Grammer (Summer), and Sarah Chalke (Beth).

Though it was a huge surprise to fans that the show would go on without Roiland, a lot of reports have come out that the series has actually been functioning very well without him, and he’s been out of the writers’ room for a while, just providing the voices of Rick and Morty. After the whole scandal though, the series was finally able to cut the chord with him, and they found an excuse to find new voices to do the series leads.

It’s kind of funny how they decided to get two different people to voice Rick and Morty this time, so if one of them got cancelled (or died), they wouldn’t lose two characters.

No release date has been set for Rick and Morty Season 8, but hopefully it comes out early 2025.
