According to Batman-On-Film sources, Batman’s Ben Affleck-directed solo may take part in Arkham Asylum. BOF’s Bill Ramey stresses the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. For how long Batman will be inside or why remains a mystery, if there’s any truth to the speculation. However, the rumor does correlate with previous talk stating the film will be packed with rogues.
Ramey says none of the sources think it’s an adaption of Grant Morrison’s Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, or of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Ben Affleck himself has said the story is an original one. Although, he and co-writer Geoff Johns are certainly taking inspiration from the comics.
A movie set in Arkham Asylum with the Dark Knight locked in with his most maniacal rogues would make a fantastic movie going experience. One of the highlights of both aforementioned Arkham stories were the horror undertones. The Asylum is a terrifying place, and seeing Affleck’s vision for such a tale would be thrilling.
This rumor, true or not, also raises the question of the Asylum’s location and story. Is it on an isle in Gotham’s harbor? In the outskirts of the city? Interestingly, this may be answered by the time Suicide Squad opens on August 5.
Whatever is going on with the film and its setting, we likely won’t know much for quite sometime. Ben Affleck has recently spoken on not being totally satisfied with the script. Therefore, despite WB internally having a date ready, he may not meet it. Which is great news for fans who just want to see the film done right. So far, it appears to be in excellent hands.
