A lot of people are excited for the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune this October, but Apple has gone ahead to preview their series based on another science fiction classic—Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series.
Watch the trailer for the show here:
Here’s the official description:
Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov, Foundation chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.
As David S. Goyer put it, Foundation was so influential when it came to the science fiction genre, that its influence can even be traced on something as huge as Star Wars. With the rise of classics like Dune, it would make sense for Apple to try and introduce a new generation of fans to what some consider to be the greatest piece of sci-fi writing ever made.
This is also just a side note, but Apple was likely teasing Foundation when they had Isaac Asimov be part of an episode of Mythic Quest Season 2.
Going to the cast though, Foundation was able to land some big stars with Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies, The Hobbit) and Jared Harris (Chernobyl, Mad Men). Harris will be playing the part of lead Hari Seldon, with Pace playing the part of Brother Day. Other stars of the show include Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, and Terrence Mann.
I have to say, for a TV series, Foundation is looking stunning. With series like The Mandalorian and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier showcasing some movie-level VFX, Foundation is not one to back down.
No solid release date has been set for Foundation, but the show is set to debut on Apple TV sometime this year.
