Despite the cult following of Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy movies, the franchise had found itself rebooted back in 2019—to lackluster results. Though the Hellboy reboot starring David Harbour didn’t really kick off, there looks to be another attempt at continuing the franchise.
As per Discussing Film, a new Hellboy film is in the works from director Brian Taylor who had directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Gamer starring Gerard Butler. While he hasn’t been working on much movies recently he did direct the Happy! series for Syfy which follows a hitman with an imaginary friend.
If anything, the trailer should give you a good idea of what to expect from a Hellboy reboot:
Watching 2019’s Hellboy, the movie doesn’t really set-up any grandiose Infinity War plans, so I can imagine that they can just bring back David Harbour and throw his Right Hand of Doom into a fresh new story. While the movie wasn’t perfect, the casting of Harbour was absolutely spot on, and I think that he managed to be a great successor for Ron Perlman’s version.
Besides that, the movie also had a of great practical effects and creature work. Even the make-up on Harbour’s Hellboy was way ahead of Perlman’s what with all the muscles and body hair. Hellboy never looked better onscreen.
No release date has been set for this new Hellboy film, but I’m still crossing my fingers they bring back Harbour. As of now, no release date has been announced for the movie.
