Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was never able to generate enough hype as House of the Dragon when it came out, and that led to a lot of fans being worried about the future of the series. As it turns out, Amazon is fully committed to giving us the completed arc of this younger Galadriel.
In an interview with Deadline, Amazon Studios Head of Global TV Vernon Sanders says that the series has ‘more than paid off’ their investment. When it comes to the series doing the whole five seasons, Sanders says, “We are absolutely committed, we have every reason to be excited. They’ve done a tremendous job.”
Despite some criticism online, Sanders states that Rings of Power has been a ‘tremendous success’ for Amazon, racking up billions of viewing minutes, and being able to raise the subscription number worldwide ever since it launched.
One other avenue they forgot to anticipate was books. Apparently, since the series premiered, there has been a renewed interest in the books of J.R.R. Tolkien, and they’ve been selling a lot more on Amazon.
Admittedly, the storytelling pace is kind of slow, but it completely tracks with Peter Jackson’s films when it comes to pacing, and there’s also an even balance of action, humor, and character moments.
My personal favorite of the series has to be Morfydd Clark’s younger Galadriel. She may not have the regal presence of Cate Blanchett, but she definitely has some of that in her character despite being a fiery elf warrior. I also have to say, I love the Harfoots, but maybe that’s just me being partial to Hobbits.
