We know that Sony has been trying its best to make Spider-Man movies without Spider-Man, and with Venom: The Last Dance, they’ve just closed the only successful franchise to come out of the ‘SUMC’. However, a rumor is going around that Sony is now developing a Venom spinoff. According to insider Daniel RPK (via ComicBookMovie), an Agent Venom movie is said to be in the works. No details have been revealed about the project, but everyone is expecting the lead host to be Flash Thompson, not Eddie Brock.
In the comics, Flash Thompson was Peter Parker’s bully, but in adulthood, he joins the military and loses his legs—resulting in him being experimented on by Norman Osborn, bonding him with the Venom symbiote, and becoming recruited as Agent Venom.
What’s different about Agent Venom is that he’s essentially black suit Spider-Man with military expertise. The catch is that Flash can only keep the symbiote on for 48 hours, because anything beyond that and the Lethal Protector Venom starts to take over and he becomes uncontrollable.
For now, there’s only one onscreen Flash Thompson in the MCU played by Tony Revolori, and though he’s still Peter Parker’s bully, there’s no build-up to him joining the military yet. Some have noted that there’s a soldier character in Venom 3 that gets his legs eaten by one of the Xenophages and his last name is Thompson, so that could be a hint.
Some think that they could actually put this movie in the Tobey Maguire world and have Joe Manganiello play the character. After losing his chance to play Deathstroke, maybe Agent Venom could be a good character for him to make his own?
With Knull being built up and Eddie Brock’s solo run completed, an Agent Venom movie doesn’t sound too farfetched.
An Agent Venom movie hasn’t been officially announced. Venom: The Last Dance is now out in theaters.
