Very few cartoons managed to define the 2010s like Adventure Time, and while the series has ended for a while, the show is coming back in some form with the spinoff Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake. The show is set to premiere at the end of August, and we just got a new trailer.
Watch this:
The official description reads:
Based on characters from the beloved “Adventure Time” franchise, this brand-new 10-episode series set in the land of Ooo follows the alternate universe versions of Finn & Jake on a multiverse-hopping journey towards self-discovery. When Fionna and her sidekick Cake find themselves in the crosshairs of a powerful new foe, they have no choice but to seek the help of former Ice King Simon Petrikov.
Fionna and Cake were introduced in the third season of Adventure Time as alternate versions of Finn and Jake, and their timeline also gave us genderbent versions of other characters from the Land of Ooo like Prince Gumball and the Ice Queen. We also got a song number from Fionna and Marshall Lee, who is voiced by none other than Donald Glover:
While fans expect Fionna & Cake to have more of the signature Adventure Time humor and hijinks, it’s possible that the show will lean into more adult themes, like the latter episodes of the series. It is going to be interesting to see just how their world is different, especially since we know that Fionna has her own Ice Queen to fight, and here the series brings in Finn’s Ice King, Simon.
Catch Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake when the series premieres on Max on Aug. 31.
