A lot of fans thought we would be seeing more of John Krasinski’s Mr. Fantastic after Doctor Strange 2, but it looks like Marvel wants to cast someone else entirely for the role.
According to insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct) Adam Driver (Marriage Story, Star Wars) is in final talks to play Reed Richards in the MCU. We don’t have enough info besides this, but there have been rumors flying around of Driver being involved for a while; and this lines everything up.
With Driver jumping into more artsy projects after Star Wars, a lot of his fans thought that joining the MCU would be the last thing on his mind, but with him taking in the leading role in time-travel blockbuster film 65, maybe Driver isn’t so averse to starring in these ‘theme park’ films.
Personally, I was into the idea of Marvel casting a POC Reed Richards with top choices being Dev Patel (Green Knight) and Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass) online. There have also been rumors of Jason Segel being cast as Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing, but we didn’t really get any update on that; it was actually said he would be appearing in She-Hulk, but that didn’t turn out to be true.
We don’t know when Marvel Studios will be ready to introduce their iteration of the Fantastic Four, but with Reed already appearing in Multiverse of Madness, it will only be a matter of time. Sure we have a 2025 release date, but the way Marvel is, we could be getting their debut in a project a year before that.
Fantastic Four is expected to release in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
