The Transformers franchise may have blown up in the box office with the live-action movies, but Paramount is going back to form with an animated origin movie called Transformers One.
The movie is set to release in September, and we have a new clip which has Orion Pax (Optimus Prime) and D-16 (Megatron) joining a race filled with transformers. Check this out:
Based on the clip, it does look like the world of Cybertron has a class hierarchy, and Orion and D-16 are at the bottom of it as miners. Based on previous trailers it does look like the ability to transform with the robots is going to be a kind of privilege/rite-of-passage, that’s why so many people are amazed that the miners joined the race without even being able to transform.
With a call for a Cybertron-centric movie going around the fanbase for a while, Transformers One feels like it’s going to finally focus on the arc of solely the transformers as compared to previous movies where there has to be a human story shoehorned in.
Based on early reviews for the film, a lot of fans have been digging Transformers One, and this is sure to be a great entry for the franchise as more fans wait for the sequel to Rise of the Beasts. We haven’t gotten an update on that G.I. Joe crossover for a year, but hopefully One will be able to sustain interest in robots in disguise until Paramount is ready to drop an update.
Transformers One comes to cinemas on Sept. 20.
